Markdown

Markdown is a markup language for creating formatted text using a plain-text editor. It was created in 2004 by John Gruber and Aaron Swartz. Technical writers often use Markdown to create documentation pages.

Basic elements of Markdown syntax:

  • headers
  • paragraphs
  • line breaks
  • bold
  • italic
  • code in text and in blocks
  • blockquotes
  • links
  • images
  • ordered lists
  • unordered lists
  • tables
  • table of content
